Biography

Alasdair Jamieson studied music at St. Andrews University (with Cedric Thorpe Davie) and since then has divided his time between teaching, research work and performance. He has been Director of Music at schools in Cheltenham, Gloucester and York, and has given lecture courses in the Extra-Mural Department at Birmingham University. He researched into the music of Goffredo Petrassi at Birmingham (with John C.G. Waterhouse) and in 2007 completed a doctoral thesis on Hamish MacCunn here at Durham (supervised by Jeremy Dibble). In 1986 he was a jury member for the Guido d’Arezzo Choral Composition Competition and he organised the Cheltenham Music Festival Film programme for five years (1985-90). He conducts the York Symphony Orchestra and  York Opera, as well as singing in the Leeds-based choir, the St Peter's Singers.
