Biography

Eric Skytterholm Egan (1983) is an Irish-Norwegian composer based in  the north of England. His music focuses on clarity of formal expression, combining a range of influences, from simplicity to complexity, creating a world of sound with roots in free improvisation, serialism and jazz. Eric completed a PhD in Composition in May 2010, under Richard Rijnvos, at the University of Durham where he is currently employed as Teaching Fellow in Composition.

Eric has worked with a range of different ensembles and musicians, including El Perro Andaluz, trio ¿au fff hören!?, ensemble Adapter, the Arditti Quartet, the Momenta Quartet and groups from the BBC SSO and Northern Sinfonia. His music has featured at events including Global Ear Dresden, the Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music, UNM 2010 (Helsinki), ¡Vamos! Festival, Kirsten Flagstad Festival, and Glastonbury. Eric is currently working on a series of four pieces entitled World of Beauty (for piano quartet, piano trio, violin and cello, and cello solo), supported by a grant from Komponistenes Vederlagsfond (the Norwegian Composers' Grant Organisation. His music is published by MIC Norway.
