Russian for Professional Communication

This module will be available in 2013-14

About this Module 

This module will develop the particular linguistic skills necessary for composing and translating professional documents (business correspondence, contracts, minutes, and so on) and for performing consecutive, on sight, and liaison interpreting, predominantly from Russian into English, but also from English into Russian. Both the written and oral components of the module will focus primarily on business materials. 

Teaching and Learning

There are two weekly hours, one devoted to writing skills, the other a practical lab-based session on interpreting and role play. Attendance will be monitored in all classes. The module will be capped at 20. 

Summative Assessment

  • 2-hour written examination (50%)
  • 1-hour interpreting examination (50%)
