Internal Funding and Fellowships
Funding opportunities and internal fellowships are available within Durham at School, Faculty and University levels.
School of Modern Languages and Cultures
Individual research allowance with additional funding available for some larger research projects and activities, including publication expenses (subventions and permissions); conferences organised by members of staff; some seedcorn funding; and activities which respond to the 'impact' agenda. Applications for additional funding to be made in advance of MLAC Research Committee each term, using the form circulated by the School Finance Administrator.
Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Seedcorn funding of up to £1000 available for project support, travel and research activities taking place in Durham. Normally two rounds of funding per year, in Michaelmas and Epiphany Terms. No more applications can be made in the academic year 2012/13; the next round of funding will be advertised in due course.
PVC (R) Seedcorn Funding
The PVC for Research operates a seedcorn fund to support the development of research projects leading to large grant applications. Funding of up to £20,000 is available to cover costs related to travel, team meetings and project planning. Applications to the fund can be made at any time. Go here for full details.
Internal Research Fellowships
The Institute of Advanced Study administers two internal fellowship schemes, both of which offer a term's research leave via teaching buy-out. The IAS Fellowship scheme will be of interest to colleagues pursuing research related to an IAS theme; the Fellowship scheme will open in April 2013 for recruitment for the 2014-15 programme. The IAS also runs the Christopherson-Knott fellowship scheme is not tied to the annual IAS scheme; the scheme is now closed to applications for this round, but it will be open again in early 2014.
