Biography
I am currently holding the position of Teaching Fellow in the Italian Department. I have been teaching Italian language at Durham University since 1991. My current duties involve overseeing the entire Italian language programme and tutoring students in their year abroad. I liaise with a number of language schools in Italy and oversee the dispensation of grants for any of our students who want to attend a course there.
My teaching experience has been acquired in a variety of different environments such as Primary and Secondary educational institutions, Technical Colleges, and businesses (Glaxo, Electrolux and ICI, for example). Here at Durham, one of my primary focuses concerns the development of listening skills in Italian. I have devised the Listening comprehension module for Italian 1B and in 2006, following students’ demands, I piloted a listening component strand, as part of the 2B Italian language module, all based on up to date videoclips.
I am a member of the Learning and Teaching Committee within the School of Modern Languages and I am also a personal tutor at University College.
I have also got an interest in language teaching at Secondary level and I have been a member of the Italian Board for the Italian GCSE paper for AQA since 1991 where I hold an advisory and consultative role. I was Chief Examiner for the Italian GCSE Reading paper from 1991 to 1994 and from 1992 to 2001 I co-set the AS level Italian paper for the JMB Board. I am currently involved in the new FCSE (First Certificate of Secondary Education) for the 2008/09 examinations.
