Biography
My research interests centre on cultural representation in the mass media, with a focus on mutual perceptions and representation between the West and China. Currently I am working on a research project ‘Representing Capitalism in Chinese Television’ . The project focuses on how the Chinese elites perceive its new place in the international world in the 21st century as reflected in media’s portrayal of (western) modernity, globalisation and its post-financial crisis problems. My previous research project explores the politics of representation in China, examining the changing dynamics between sociopolitical transformations, the mass media and cultural identities. I have also carried out research on the British media reporting of China.
PhD supervision
I welcome applications on topics surrounding mass media, discourse, cultural and political representation.
