About this Module

The module introduces the basic structures of Persian grammar and is designed to teach students to read, understand, write and speak modern Persian.  At the end of the year, students will be able to translate elementary passages from and into Persian, and conduct simple everyday conversations.

Teaching and Learning

The module is taught in language classes and tutorials.  A two-hour weekly language class is supplemented by a weekly one-hour tutorial. Students are required to attend all classes, prepare the assignments that are set, and participate actively. Attendance will be monitored in all teaching sessions. 

Summative Assessment

  • 15-minute oral examination (20%)
  • 2-hour written examination (80%)

Course materials will be provided by the department.  A small charge may be made.
