Durham Geometers
In the last few years several geometers
have been appointed as new members of staff. We are able to offer a
very broad spectrum of topics within the general area of geometry,
including complex geometry, geometry of arithmetic groups, hyperbolic
geometry, Laplace and Schrödinger operators, locally symmetric spaces,
minimal surfaces, dynamical systems, singularity theory. Generally speaking, we are
interested in the interplay between geometry and other areas of pure
mathematics like algebra, combinatorics, dynamics, number theory, real
and complex analysis.
Durham Geometers:
In the past three years, there have been four PhD graduates from Durham supervised by us. Current PhD students working in geometry are:
- Femke Douma
- Andy Hayden
- Ben Lambert
- Joseph Oliver
- Amani Saloom
- James Thompson
- Scott Thomson
- Benjamin Thorpe
We welcome applications from well-qualified students. We would expect to connect a research student with a suitable supervisor and research topic after the student has been in Durham for a few months and undertaken some preliminary training in geometry. A mutually agreed decision can then be taken, informed by a knowledge of the student's strengths and preferences.
