Department of Mathematical Sciences

The Centre for Particle Theory

Research is carried out in the Centre for Particle Theory, which is a collaborative research centre of the Departments of Mathematical Sciences and Physics. The Centre is the largest particle theory group in the United Kingdom. Activity in the Department of Mathematical Sciences covers a wide variety of area in theoretical particle physics including string theory, non-perturbative quantum field theory, integrable models, topological solitons and cosmology. This research was given the top five-star rating in the latest Research Assessment Exercise. The Centre for Particle Theory also contains the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology, with the involvement of both the Departments of Mathematical Sciences and Physics.
