Education Library

The Leazes Road Library is open for 60 hours each week in term-time. Full services are available 9.00 am - 5.00 pm Monday to Thursday, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm Friday, when demand is usually highest. Staff resources are concentrated during this period and as a result there are some limits to the level of service provided outside these hours:-

Services normally available during evening and weekends:

  • issue, return and renewal of all stock, including Short Loan Collection, audio/visual materials, CD ROMS and CDs and other non-book items
  • collection of holds, including items from Store and Queen's Campus Library
  • collection, return and consultation of Document Delivery Service items and submission of Document Delivery Service requests online via the library catalogue 
  • payment of fines
  • registation for, and borrowing of, library laptops
  • photocopying facilities, including purchase of photocopying cards
  • microfilm and fiche reading
  • use of study facilities and networked PCs
  • self-help documentation

Library staff on duty can help you with:

  • directional enquiries
  • general library enquiries
  • general telephone enquiries, including renewals
  • individual assistance for DUSSD registered students
  • use of the online Catalogue
  • use of the borrowing machine

Services referred to daytime staff:

  • retrieval of books and journals being processed by the Library
  • subject enquiries: you may use the paper or online reference enquiry form on the web site to submit your question
  • fines and invoice queries
  • payment of invoices
  • enquiries about the progress of document delivery service requests

Services available when the Library is closed:

  • out of hours book return drop at the entrance to the School of Education
  • self-service facilities for checking your library record, placing reservations, paying fines (£5 minimum) and renewals, via the Catalogue
  • self-service facilities for placing store requests, Document Delivery Service requests and submitting suggestions, via the Library web site
  • Library web site for general Library information, and access to electronic information resources
