Accessing Theses from Other Universities

UK Theses

The most popular British PhD theses are now freely available electronically through British Library's EThOS service. As a result British Library has stopped lending its microfilm collection and will scan theses as they are requested. EThOS holds thousands of theses which have already been scanned, and thousands more can be scanned (on request to EThOS) free of charge. Some theses are only available for a fee: if this is the case then place a DDS request via the thesis request form and we will either borrow the thesis (see UK Universities' policies on lending) or arrange for a subsidized request.

  • If you want to view a UK thesis please check to make sure that it is not already available via EThOS before making a Document Delivery Service request.

Requesting international theses

Many American theses are now available to download via the Library's subscription to ProQuest Dissertations and theses. Many international theses are also freely available via the internet. Use the links on the right hand side to view collections of electronic theses. If you are unable to find an electronic copy of a thesis from outside the UK please fill in a Document Delivery thesis request form. We will endevour to find an institution that stocks the thesis, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to supply a copy.
