Short Loan Collection

Content and Location

The Short Loan Collection is a collection of books, journals and photocopied articles which are in high demand because they are required reading for undergraduates and taught post-graduates. The content of the collection changes each year as new material is added and items less heavily used are returned to their regular place on the shelves.

• Bill Bryson Library - open access collection behind the service desk on Level 2
• Palace Green Library - closed access collection. Please speak to a member of staff to access the item you require.
• Leazes Road Library - open access collection opposite the service desk
• Queen's Campus Library - closed access collection. Please speak to a member of staff to access the item you require.

Borrowing

Up to 3 items may be borrowed at any one time for 4 hours throughout the day before the Library closes, or for overnight. Overnight loans are due for return one hour after the Library opens. Library opening hours vary; check the opening hours page for details of current hours. On weekdays during term time, Main library overnight loans are due at 9.00am

Short Loan Collection items are not available for borrowing by visitors.

At Palace Green Library and Queen’s Campus Library please speak to a member of staff to request the item you require. At Leazes Road Library and Bill Bryson Library, please use a borrowing machine to borrow Short Loan items.

Short loan items may not be renewed.

Returning

Short loan items should be returned via the appropriate book slot at the Library service point or to a member of staff.

Fines

As this material is needed by many users it is very important to bring books back on time. Fines of £1.00 per item per hour are charged on late returns.

Overnight borrowing

Items may be borrowed 4 hours before the library closes. Items borrowed from the Short Loan Collection will be due for return one hour after the library opens. The tables below illustrate how times will vary according to which library is used and which day of the week the item is borrowed:
