Library Catalogue
The Library Catalogue is the search engine for finding books, journals and other library materials in the University Library as well as online resources that the Library makes available to its users. Tips for searching are avaiable on our Finding Information pages.

Library Record

The personal record of a member of the University in the Library’s system. You can login to your Library Record to check or renew your loans, your borrowing history, to set up new book alerts and to amend your personal details. You need your Durham ITS username and password to access this service.
 

Link words (also referred to as Boolean operators)
Words used to connect multiple keywords when searching online. The link words specify the relationship between the keywords. 
 

Literature search
A search for published academic material on a specific topic.  It is necessary to undertake a literature search when preparing academic writing. For advice on conducting a literature search please consult our Finding Information pages.

Loan type
(also referred to as the loan period)
Indicates on the Library Catalogue whether or not an item can be borrowed and how long it can be borrowed for, subject to
recall.  

Loans
Items you have borrowed from the library, e.g. books and journals.
 

Location
Used on the
Library Catalogue to indicate where a particular item is located in one of the four University Libraries.  

Lost and Paid For

Indicates that a book or journal has been lost by a library user and is in the process of being replaced.
