Can I access e-resources from my room/home or another PC that is not on campus?
The answer to this depends on whether you are working on the campus network or on a PC away from the University.
On campus
When working on a PC connected to the Durham University network most resources will recognise you as a Durham user and not ask for any log in details. Where you are required to log in you will usually be required to enter your ITS username and password. A few resources require separate password details but these will be indicated in the 'info' link next to each database entry or the full record for each e-journal or e-book title. For more information see the guide to database passwords.
Off campus When working off campus or on a PC not connected to the University network the first time you connect to a e-resource you will most likely be asked to give your ITS username and password. You must always access an e-resource via the library webpages so that the resource prompts you for your username and password. If you go directly to the resource from a search engine, the resource will not know which institution you belong to. Any request for your details will be via a specific pop up box as you connect to the resource and will be clearly labelled as a request to give your Durham ITS details. Providing these details once in a browser session is usually enough and resources may not ask for further log-ins, if they do please see the info link.
