Copyright Licensing

Open University Licensed Off-air Recording Scheme

The University has a licence from Open University Worldwide Limited which permits, within specified terms, the off-air recording of Open University programmes for educational purposes.

Under the terms of the licence we are required to keep an up-to-date log of all Open University records made, including the:

1.         programme number

2.         programme title

3.         date recorded

4.         number of copies held

5.         date erased (if applicable)

Your Head of Department/School will be asked on an annual basis to complete and submit a log sheet.  The log sheet should list all Open University recordings held/erased by members of staff within the Department/School over the period 1 July to 30 June and must include the information required under the terms of the licence (1-5 above).

Please note that any recordings held of copyright-expired programmes should be erased and entered as such on the log sheet submitted by your Head of Department/School.  Copyright-expired programmes may be purchased from Open University Worldwide Limited.

We are required to make an annual collected return for the whole University for the period 1 July to 30 June of any Open University recordings either made or still held and shall use the information provided by your Head of Department/School for completion of this return.  Upon receipt of the return, the Open University Worldwide Limited will charge the University for each recording held.
