Reference Resources

The Library provides access to wide range of print and online reference material.

Printed reference material for each subject is housed on the same floor as its main collection. This reference material is non-borrowable and may only be used in the Library.

The Library also has access to a wide range of online reference resources, which includes directories, encyclopaedia, and both subject and language dictionaries. Access to these resources is through the Online Reference page and they are available to users both on and off campus.

MediLexicon A dictionary of over 70,000 medical, pharmaceutical, biomedical & healthcare acronyms and abbreviations.
MEDLINEplus Health Information From the US National Library of Medicine, includes a medical encyclopaedia and dictionary as well as topic sheets.
The "Bad Bug Book" Foodborne Pathogenic Microorganisms and Natural Toxins Handbook - U.S. handbook providing basic facts regarding foodborne pathogenic microorganisms and natural toxins.
Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency The webpages of the MHRA, a government agency which is responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work, and are acceptably safe. The pages include information about regulation.
British National Formulary (BNF) Key information on the selection, prescribing, dispensing and administration of medicines.
WebElements Periodic Table An online interactive periodic table from WebEelements.
Mondofacto Includes a dictionary of terms relating to biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry, medicine, plant biology, technology and zoology.
