The collection comprises sermons delivered by him 1905-1928, with most having the text, date and place of delivery recorded, a group of other talks delivered by him 1903-1908, 3 hour devotions 1916-1926, his 1911 B.D. thesis on Romans and 2 papers on Romans.
About the creator:
Samuel Kirshbaum Knight was educated at Trinity College Dublin, gaining his B.A. in 1891, an M.A. in 1899, B.D. in 1911 and D.D. in 1924. Ordained deacon in 1892 and priest in 1893 by the bishop of Manchester, he held curacies at: Wardleworth, Lancashire, 1892-1896; Barking 1896-1900; and St Margaret Westminster 1900-1906. He then went on to be vicar of St Mary Notting Hill 1906-1909, St Andrew Wells Street, St Marylebone 1915-1919 and Bridstow 1919-1921 before being rector of Houghton-le-Spring and rural dean 1921-1924. In the meantime, he had also become a lecturer and tutor at King's College London in 1907, a post he held until 1915, examining chaplain to Bishop Henson of Hereford 1918-1924, and a select preacher at Cambridge 1924-1925. His academic posts continued with appointments as a lecturer in Pastoral Theology at first Durham University in 1923 and then Cambridge University in 1925 and an honorary readership in Theology at Durham in 1926. His lectures at Cambridge 1925-1926 were published in 1933 after his death with an introduction by Henson as Fulfilling the ministry. He was also the editor of London Diocesan Sunday School Manuals. He was consecrated suffragan bishop of Jarrow on 25 July 1924, also then becoming archdeacon of Durham and a canon of Durham Cathedral, residing in The College. He died in 1932.
