Excerpt from Jack Lawson's journal. August, 1937. (LAW 1/2/115 p13)

From Gibraltar we sailed North,

a respectful distance from the Spanish Coast.

Malago [sic]

A name of terrible significance

was not far away. Malaga means Massacre now.

Further North lay

Almeria which was deliberately and

savagely attacked a week or two

before by German Warships.

From there north still the

Balearic Islands

Spanish possessions now fortified by

Germany, where her Sea Planes ride

without camo[u]flage.

Which compels the question: Is it Peace

when, important Islands can be taken and

fortified by Nations supposed to be at Peace

with the rest of Europe?

When great points of strategy can be quietly

turned danger zones to France & Britain.

When they can be used as the base for the

Bombing Aearoplanes [sic] of Germany & Italy

to kill & maim thousands of men, women

& children in Spain.

International Law once forbad such things.

But today Pirates of the Sea: Pirates of the

Air: Pirates on Land, are once great Nations

which respected Law.
