Durham University Records
The records of the University of Durham are principally the collection formed by the administration, staff and students of the institution.
There are also other groups of records to be found in collections within Special Collections. The letters of Charles Thorp document his involvement in the founding of the University and those of early staff members such as Chevallier and Whitley cast light on the 19th century institution. The records of the University Observatory, and those of the major repairs carried out on Durham Castle in the 1930s show other areas of University activity. Local photographic firms such as Edis and Fillingham's contain many formal photographs recording college and sporting life.
Some collections worth looking at in addition to the main sequence of Durham University Records are given below.
