Slides and some negative strips forming part of the Kellett Collection on the history of Renaissance medicine.The photographic section of the collection consists of an accumulation of ca. 1,000 slides, some colour, some black and white, mostly 35mm. but including a few lantern slides, and ca. 30 small packets of 35mm. black and white negative strips, which Dr. Kellett used for lectures and articles on his field of research.The images are taken from manuscripts, books, engravings, drawings and paintings. Only a minority are identified, but the packets of negatives and most of the boxes have labels giving a rough indication of content (e.g. "Vesalius", "Zodiac figure", "Pictures Italian", "Anatomies - early dissection", and so on).
About the creator:
The Kellett Collection was formed by Dr. C.E.M. Kellett (1908-78) around his own research interests on the history of 16th and 17th century medicine, particularly developments in anatomical teaching and illustration in France and Italy. It consists primarily of printed books, but also includes Dr. Kellett's working papers, slides and negatives. The books and papers are described elsewhere.
