Object and Image Collections

The Library provides access to a number of image databases, including the British Library's Images Online. The Image Databases page links to sites offering images and video clips which may support teaching and research in Durham University.

There are also a number of Object and Image collections particularly recommended for Anthropology. Do remember that copyright exists for images as well as written texts. Unless stated otherwise you will need to request the orginiator's permission to reproduce an image:

Palace Green Photographic Collections Photographs can be found in many of the Palace Green collections.
California Academy of Sciences Anthropology Collection The collection contains some 17,000 objects, of which over 8,000 are represented by digital images
Bishop Museum Ethnology Database

The Bishop Museum's Ethnology Collection includes more than 70,000 objects from throughout the Pacific region.

Digital Archive Network for Anthropology and World Heritage Still in the early stages of development, this site so far contains contributions from three universities. Special plug-ins are needed to view the 3D models

TED Talks "Riveting talks by remarkable people, free to the world" from TED, a non-profit organisation devoted to "Ideas Worth Spreading". Freely available videos of talks by key people on a wide range of topics. A number of search options make finding topics and speakers easy.
