Library Steering Group

The Library Steering Group meets once a term and is a standing committee of Senate. Annually, it reports to UEC, Senate and Council, at the meeting of those bodies in the Michaelmas Term.

Purpose

  • to ensure that Library services are aligned to University strategy and objectives, and that policies and structures are in place to manage Library services effectively.
  • to provide  advice, direction and support in relation to Library strategy and priorities and appropriate levels of investment in Library services.

Responsibilities

In support of its purpose the Library Steering Group will:

  • advise on strategy and policy for the University Library and library services in the University.
  • ensure that progress is made with strategic objectives and the annual action plan.
  • ensure that service users are regularly consulted through user satisfaction surveys, focus groups and other means, and that mechanisms are in place to act on user feedback.
  • keep under review standards of service and information provision
  • report on Library developments to University committees as  appropriate and approve an annual report to UEC, Senate and Council.
  • engage with the University Research Committee and Learning and Teaching Committee, through the direct input of the Librarian to these two committees and by the Librarian presenting feedback to the steering group, to ensure that the Library strategy is aligned with the University’s research strategy and learning and teaching strategy.
  • agree, for recommendation to UEC, Senate and Council, the regulatory framework for Library services, admission to the Library and charges for Library services.
  • provide advice to the Librarian, when requested, regarding breaches of Library regulations and infringement of licence agreements and copyright.
