1.8.4: Excerpt from the Draft General University Regualtions for Matriculation

The University Regulations for Matriculation are published annually in the University Calendar.  In the event of any conflict between the summary printed here and the University Calendar, the University Calendar will take precedence.  The following excerpt refers only to those qualifications most relevant to this document.

QUALIFICATION BY GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION AND GENERAL NATIONAL VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

1. Candidates will be qualified to matriculate if they have taken the examination for the General Certificate of Secondary Education, the General National Vocational Qualification at Advanced Level or the General Certificate of Education at Ordinary, Advanced or Advanced Subsidiary Levels and obtained passes in five subjects, of which

  • either two must be offered at A2 Level;
  • or        one must be offered at A2 Level and one in one 6-unit GNVQ award at Advanced Level;
  • or        one must be offered in one 12-unit GNVQ award at Advanced Level;
  • or        two must be offered in two 6-unit GNVQ awards at Advanced Level.
  • The remaining subjects may be offered at GCSE, O Level or AS Level.

2. Candidates will be qualified to matriculate if they have taken the examination for the General National Vocational Qualification at Intermediate Level and obtained a pass in:

  • either  one 6-unit GNVQ award at Intermediate Level;
  • or        two 3-unit GNVQ awards at Intermediate Level.                 

And, in addition, taken the examination for the General National Vocational Qualification at Advanced Level, or the General Certificate of Education at Advanced Level and obtained a pass in:

  • either  one 12-unit GNVQ award at Advanced Level;
  • or        two 6-unit GNVQ awards at Advanced Level;
  • or        one 6-unit GNVQ award at Advanced Level and one A2 Level;
  • or        two A2 Levels.

3. For the purposes of these regulations, subjects offered at GNVQ Foundation Level or Key Skills Qualifications are not considered sufficient for matriculation.

4. For the purposes of these regulations, a GCSE pass or O Level pass must be at grade C or above.
