Biography
Nicholas is a doctoral scholar in the law school, having been awarded a Durham Law Scholarship in 2011, and is a tutor in the Law of Torts. Prior to joining the law school, Nicholas worked in banking in the City of London, primarily in the fields of securitisation and leveraged finance. He was called to the Bar of England & Wales in 2009, after which he returned to the City to assist with the administration of an insolvent investment bank, specialising in litigation pertaining to insolvency set-off, international property finance and superyacht finance. As well as a Master of Laws degree from Durham, Nicholas also holds single honours bachelor's degrees in Politics and Law.
Current Research
Nicholas' research, supervised by Prof. Christian Witting and Dr Orkun Akseli, concerns the law of negligent misstatement. Specifically, the research re-examines our understanding of the duty of care, doing so by considering the taxonomy of misstatement within the broader field of private law (including unjust enrichment and contract). The analysis further questions whether the taxonomically sound analysis can meet - or indeed should ipso facto trump - policy and commercial considerations.
