John Snow College

Location and Building

Our College accommodation and facilities are based on the south bank of the River Tees in Stockton - a magnificent stretch of water above the Tees River Barrage. We are only seven minutes walk away from Queen's Campus, where you will find all the teaching buildings, library, sports centre, boathouse and Waterside Restaurant. It is one minutes walk to the nearest grocery shop (Sainsburys Local, just across the road) and five minutes walk into Stockton-on-Tees town centre.

Buildings

Our College accommodation and facilities are based in this building pictured, which has recently undergone a one million pound development including the "greening" of one of the car parks to an outdoor social area, the installation of new bike sheds and bbq area, and the plantation of shrubs and trees.

Our College offices and JCR office are based in the Holliday Building at the centre of Campus. The College Officers are responsible for running the College.  College Officers have different responsibilities with the Principal taking overall responsibility for the College, supported by the Senior Tutor, and working closely with the President and Executives of the Junior Common Room (JCR), Middle Common Room (MCR), Senior Common Room (SCR) and the College’s governing body, the College Council.

In addition, the Holliday Building houses the Waterside Restaurant and Bar, teaching facilities, some departmental offices, Student Services, a shop (operated by Durham Students Union) and the central administration of the campus.

On Campus you will also find the Ebsworth building which houses teaching facilities, the library and Cafe Aroma. The Wolfson Research Institute next door to the Ebsworth is a major research facility which focuses on health.
