CdCl2 may be described as half the octahedral holes in alternate layers of a ccp of Cl being filled by Cd.

1. What is the coordination number of Cd?

2. What is the coordination number of Cl?

4. Stop the rotation and spin the structure so you can see (a) a view down the hexagonal layers and (b) a side on view of the layers.

5. What type of bonds hold the layers together?

5. How is this structure related to that of CdI2?
