About Me

Professional

Standing next to the ISIS spectrograph on the William Herschel Telescope, La Palma.

I am mainly interested in studying the outflows of active galaxies in an attempt to determine their causes and the effects they have on their immediate surroundings. There is currently lots of interesting research into this area, as we believe these outflows have a strong influence on the evolution of galaxies.

Other interests

Playing the part of Hal in Proof by David Auburn alongside fellow astrophysicist and accomplished actor, Prof. Simon Morris.

I have a number of interests outside astrophysics. In particular, I enjoy singing in the rock band that a number of my friends set up and treading the boards with the local amateur dramatics group. I am also a keen cyclist and love tinkering with my lovely steel framed Raleigh road bike. When that's not fast enough, I'll take the motorbike out on the country roads around Durham. If the weather's dull, you'll often find me reading or baking bread (I make a cracking tin loaf!).
