Durham University is a busy research and teaching community located in the historic cathedral city of Durham in the North-East of England, an area famed for its attractive countryside, coastline and cultural heritage.  Founded in 1832, the University is the third oldest in England and proud of its acadedmic heritage.

The University has a total student population of about 15,000, and is home to approximately 2,000 international students from all over the world. The work of the University covers traditional areas of study/education, including key branches of science and technology.

Durham graduates are in great demand among employers and the University helps to attract investment into the region.  Durham is ranked a world top 15 university by leading recruiters for the quality of our graduates in the 2011 QS World University League rankings.

One unique feature of Durham is our collegiate system. Our 16 Colleges or Societies provide a social, domestic and pastoral focus for students and help individuals flourish through mentoring and involvement with college life, sports and societies and community engagement. Students on the Study Abroad Programme are guaranteed accommodation and are fully integrated in one of our residential colleges for a true "Durham experience".
