Outgoing Durham Students

Information for Durham Students wishing to study at Harvard University

Students wishing to apply for a period of research at Harvard through our Exchange Programme will need to apply to the International Office at Durham  in the first instance before being nominated to participate in the exchange. In general the exchange allows for one Durham student per semester to go to Harvard but the exchange needs to balance over a period of time so it is possible that there may not be places available at certain times. Additionally if more than one student wishes to be considered for a particular Semester at Harvard there will be a selection procedure at Durham to decide who is nominated  to Harvard. Nominated students will then have to complete a separate application to the Harvard Visiting Fellows Office (Graduate School of Arts and Science).

Application deadlines

The Visiting Fellows Office has two application rounds - one for visits the Fall Semester (August - December) with a deadline of the preceding 1 March and one for visits in the Spring Semester (January - May) with a deadline of  the preceding 1 October.

Internal deadlines for initial applications to the International Office are therefore as follows:

  • 15 January for visits to Harvard in the Fall Semester
  • 15 August for visits in the Spring Semester

In order to be considered please complete the application form below:

“My time with the Program on Science Technology and Society at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government gave me the valuable opportunity to be immersed in a strong community of supportive, rigorous, enthusiastic and dedicated STS scholars, whose combination of careful questioning and thorough reading challenged and improved both my thinking and writing. Interdisciplinary colleagues helped widen my scope of reference and depth of understanding; discussion groups and the inimitable STS Circle refreshed my critical thinking. I am fortunate that the friendship, curiosity and sharp intellect of the fellows group remain with me on my return to Durham.”
