Information for Qassim University

The following pages contain advice for current staff from Qassim University. In November 2011 an agreement was signed between Durham University and Qassim University to make Durham's postgraduate degree programme more accessible to current staff at Qassim.

Applying for taught MAs

If you currently hold a Bachelors degree with a GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.0, and have an IELTS score of at least 6.5, with no element below 6.0 then you are eligible to apply for a one year taught Masters degree at Durham. You will need to be in Durham from the start of October until the following September, though most students return home during term breaks.

If you currently hold a Bachelors degree with a GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.0, but have an IELTS score of less than 6.5, but greater than 5.0 then you are eligible to apply for our intensive academic English programmes. We offer several different programmes of varying length depending on you current ability. All programmes are currently delivered in Durham. Programmes are offered during the Spring / Summer months and are 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 22 weeks long.

We are currently developing an intensive English language programme in conjunction with Qassim University. This programme will be for students with IELTS scores under 5.0. It will be a 2 year programme with Year 1 being delivered in Qassim by Qassim University. Year 2, which will be offered from Autumn 2013, will be taught by Durham University both in Qassim and in Durham and will be offered to students who have successfully completed the Year 1 Qassim programme, or hold an overall IELTS score of 5.0.

Summer Schools

The DBS Executive Education Office provides a range of summers schools, while these are typically five days in length, they can vary from three days to a whole month. Their content is modular, with partners selecting from a menu of workshops covering different areas of business and management. Additional activities are also included in the programme (to be specified by Qassim University). These activities can include company visits, cultural activities, and English language training.

Part-time Masters Programme

The Global Learning Centre offers two part-time Masters programmes. Students can choose to study for either an MA Marketing or MA Management. The delivery format offers flexibility in both the mode of study and duration. All modules are available via distance learning (moving to online in 2013); a large number of modules are also available on a block-taught basis here in Durham too. Students can "pick and mix" between these modes of study. Programmes will take between 18 to 48 months to complete. There is an annual summer school in Durham each September as well. We offer two intakes per year for the part-time Masters courses (October and April).
