Some colleges are housed in modern, purpose-built accommodation, while others are located in historic listed buildings. Colleges within Durham University have many similar features, for example they will have:

 A variety of study bedrooms
 Junior Common Room (undergraduate colleges)
 Middle Common Room
 Senior Common Room
 Social space
 JCR run clubs and societies
 Launderette facilities
 Formal dinners and student balls

And most have:

 Gym facilities (to complement the University Sports Centre)
