Working in the UK
It may be possible for you to work during your studies but the type of work you may undertake and the number of hours you are permitted to work are connected to your visa.
If your entry clearance or residence permit sticker or identity card says the following you will be permitted to work:
- Work (and any changes) must be authorised
- Able to work as authorised by the Secretary of State
- Work as in Tier 4 Rules
- Restricted work. P/T term time. F/T vacations
- Restricted work term time
You must not work if your entry clearance or resident permit sticker or identity card states:
- no work, or
- work prohibited
Please read the UKCISA guide to 'working in the UK during your studies' for guidance on the number of hours you will be able to work, the minimum wage and national insurance in the UK.
Where can I find a part-time job?
The Student Employment Service (SES), part of the Careers Advisory Service, aims to help students to find local part-time work (paid and voluntary) in and around Durham and Stockton. You can join their mailing list and receive regular emails alerting you of new jobs or call in during one of their drop-in sessions if you have any questions about part-time work.
