Shandong delegation visits Durham

Shandong University (China) delegation paid a visit to Durham University from 22 June to 24 June 2010. The main purpose of the visit is to further enhance communication and collaborations between two universities, in particular, in the disciplines of Law, Economics, Engineering and Chemistry.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Andrew Deeks welcomed the delegates and give an introduction on Durham university. The delegates, including Prof Chao JIA (Deputy Dean of School of Civil Engineering), Prof Jinyan HU (Deputy Dean of School of Economics), Prof Yanping QI (Dean of Law School), Prof Xiaopeng HAO (State Key Lab Of Crystal Materials), and Ms Hongmin Jiang (International officer), were deeply impressed by the unique Durham experience.
The delegation visited international office as well as academic departments, including, School of Engineering and Computer Sciences, Chemistry Department, Law School and Business School.
During the visit, the delegation showed strong interested in collaboration with Durham counter-part departments in three areas, namely, students, teaching and research. Meanwhile, some of the delegates have already sent invitation to their counter-parts in Durham for research visit this year.

Professor Jon Davidson, North America Regional Interest Group Lead, hosted a Thanksgiving Reception on Thursday 24th November 2011 in the Calman Learning Centre. American students and staff came along for a thanksgiving buffet and to watch what we could find of the American Football! We hope everyone enjoyed the evening and that the strong American community here at Durham here continues to grow.
Postgraduate Scholars Reception - 2 November 2011
Thank you to all of you who made the postgraduate scholars reception such a wonderful evening. The purpose of the evening was to congratulate all scholarship and bursary holders as you start your postgraduate studies at Durham. Some (but by no means all) of the awarding bodies represented were:
- The Department for International Development and the Shared Commonwealth Scholars
- ESRC funded doctoral students
- The Afghan Women's Scholarship Scheme, supported by alumni and the 2009 Chancellor's Appeal
- Departmental scholarships
- The Indonesian Government and their SPIRIT Scholarship Scheme
- The Ruth First Scholarship Scheme
