Matariki Network of Universities (MNU)

Matariki Network of Universities (MNU)

The Matariki Network of Universities (MNU) is a select international alliance of seven leading research led universities who share a commitment to excellence in research, scholarship and rounded education. The network was formed in 2010 between Dartmouth College, USA; Queen's University, Canada; UWA, Australia; University of Otago, New Zealand; University of Tubingen, Germany; Uppsala University, Sweden; and Durham.

Recent Activity includes:

  • Bioethics workshop at Durham

  • Staff mobility grants (more information on the 2012 round is available below)

  • The Student Experience Forum in September 2011

  • The Durham-Dartmouth Cosmology Workshop in Dartmouth.

  •  The PVCs for Research from each of the institutions in the Network met at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Durham on the 16th May 2012 to discuss research in the context of the network. A number of common research themes were identified and seven primary research themes agreed on for strategic focus by the network, following the rationale of following areas with greatest overlap with profile across the network. Each institution will take responsibility for each theme as follows:

  1. Brain and Mind (Integrative Neuroscience) Otago;
  2. Quantum Science Tübingen;
  3. Peace and Conflict Uppsala;
  4. Disaster Resilience Durham;
  5. Cyber-security Dartmouth;
  6. Energy, Resources and Environment Queen’s;
  7. Medieval and Early Modern Thought and Affect and Digital Support for the Social Sciences and Humanities University of Western Australia.
  • The lastest Executive Board meeting was held at Queen's University, Canada on the 1st-2nd November 2012.
