Fees, Funding and Finance
It is essential to plan your finances carefully for the duration of your studies. As an international student, you are not entitled to any financial assistance from the UK government and you must have sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses before you travel to the UK in addition to budgeting for possible differences in exchange rates.
How much will it cost?
You will need to have funds to cover your tuition and accommodation fees and your living expenses of approximately £800 per month (as advised by the UK Border Agency).
How much money should I bring with me?
There is no limit to the amount of money that you can bring into the UK. You can bring your own currency, travellers' cheques or pounds sterling, but for your own safety we would advise you to bring money in the form of travellers' cheques rather than large amounts of cash.
If it is possible, please open a bank account with a multi-national bank in your home country before you travel to the UK. This will enable you to use the bank's Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) in the UK as soon as you arrive.
Please bring with you enough money to cover any expenses during the first few days in the UK. We would recommend that you bring no more than £400 in cash, or preferably please bring traveller's cheques.
Payment of tuition fees
Tuition and accommodation fees are payable following your arrival at the University. An invoice will be issued to you indicating the date by which you must have paid these fees. Payments, in sterling, can be made direct debit, credit card, cheque or bankers draft or bank transfer. However, direct debit is the University's preferred method of payment.
Tuition fees can be paid in one lump sum, or in three instalments, divided into three unequal payments. For information about the payment and division of your tuition fee payments, please contact the Treasurer's department.
