Durham's strong tradition of internationalisation is entering a new phase of international activity where the strategic co-ordination of all our international activities will be essential in helping us to maintain and improve our position as a world leading university.
Internationalisation Strategy
Professor Anoush Ehteshami was appointed as Dean of Internationalisation in January 2009 and is leading the development and implementation of the University’s Internationalisation strategy, as embedded in its broader and ambitious 2010-20 Strategy.
In the meantime, work has already begun to try to support colleagues in their efforts to internationalise through the development of a number of Regional Interest Groups (RiGs) bringing together staff and postgraduate students who have an interest or expertise in a particular global region. The Africa (sub-Sahara) Group was launched in May, led by Dr Mark Booth of the Wolfson Research Institute, and attracted participation from colleagues from all Faculties.
During Michaelmas and Ephiphany terms further RiGs will be established:
- Middle East and North Africa
- Latin America and the Caribbean
- South and Central Asia
- East Asia
- South East Asia
- North America
- Europe
