Passport & Visa Verification
As a Tier 4 licensed sponsor, Durham University must fulfil a number of obligations required by the UKBA in order to allow us to sponsor you to study here. One of the obligations is that we check and keep a copy of your passport and visa/biometric resident permit (BRP) card for our records. You are expected to show us your passport and visa/BRP card every year.
If you have not yet completed your passport and visa check for this year, please bring your current passport and visa/BRP card to the Student Immigration and Financial Support Office as soon as possible.
Should you need to extend your visa during your course of study – or you obtain a new passport or BRP card – we will also need a copy of this. You are expected to show your new passport or visa to us as soon as you receive it.
EU and UK Citizens:
If you are an EU or UK citizen but you have been registered as paying international fees. You are still required to have your passport checked. Once you have provided us with a copy of your passport, we will update your record and you will not be required to do this procedure again.
Students away from the University:
If you are unable to attend our office because you are away from the University undertaking field work, you must send a scanned copy of your passport and visa to your supervisor who should verify that it is your passport and forward the email to immigration@durham.ac.uk confirming that your passport / visa photo is a true likeness of you. Once we have received this confirmation from your supervisor, we will register the details and ensure that there is no immigration restriction on your University account.
