Applying in Person

If you know you need to travel or just want to get your new visa more quickly you can apply in person at a Public Enquiry Office (PEO). This is a more expensive way of applying but it means that, providing your application is straightforward, you (and any dependants) can get your visa granted on the day of your appointment. You can find information about locations and how to book an appointment by clicking here.

If your application is more complicated, your visa may not be granted on the day of your appointment. If you are unsure about this please contact the Student Immigration & Financial Support Office to discuss your situation.

Giving your biometric details

If you apply in person at a PEO you will be asked to give your biometric details at the same appointment.

If your application is straight forward and your visa is granted, your new visa will be sent to you by post within a few days.

For more information on how to apply in person, click here or return to 'Applying for your visa in the UK'.

Paying for your application

If you apply in person at a PEO, you can use any of the ways stated on the application form to pay the fee.

Paying by credit / debit card

Although paying by Postal Order is recommended for postal applications, because you will pay the fee for your application on the day of your appointment, it can often be easier and is less expensive to pay by credit / debit card. If you choose to pay this way, you should make sure that the card details on your application form are correct.

Paying for your application by Postal Order

To pay for your application using Postal Orders, you must first buy them from the Post Office. At the Post Office, ask for a Postal Orders for the value of £394*. Also, ask for the Postal Orders to be made payble to ‘Home Office’. The maximum amount for 1 Postal Order is £250 and therefore you will be given 2 Postal Orders making up the full value.

*there is an additional charge of approximately £12.50 for each Post Order (maximum £250, see above).

So that your Postal Orders can be matched to your application if they are separated from it, you should write the following on the back of each, in the space above the line:
  • Your full name
  • Date of birth
  • Nationality
Once you have done this you should staple the Postal Orders to the fee payment page of the form.
