'Reading in Place : Literature, Architecture and Identity in Late-Medieval London'

The IMRS and English Studies will be jointly hosting a seminar by Slater Visiting Fellow Dr Robert Rouse, University of British Columbia.

Dr. Robert Rouse is Associate Professor of Medieval Literature in the Department of English, UBC. Recent authored monographs include The Idea of Anglo-Saxon England in Middle English Romance and The Medieval Quest for Arthur. Chapters in edited volumes include ‘Family, Region, Nation: Bevis of Hampton and English Identity’ in A Companion to Bevis of Hampton and “Inscribing Lineage: The Maude Roll as Medieval/Colonial/Postcolonial Artefact” in Migrations: Medieval Manuscripts in New Zealand.

Robert’s research has been primarily concerned with medieval romance (both Arthurian and non-Arthurian), writing on issues of historiography (in particular post-conquest perceptions of the Anglo-Saxon Past), English national identity, saracens and other medieval others, the law, the medieval erotic, and - most recently - the medieval geographical imagination.
