Podcast - Banking crises and financial legislation Part 1

(11 April 2011)

In Part 1 of 2 of this podcast from Work Package 2 of the Tipping Points project, Brett Cherry talks to Prof Ranald Michie and Dr Folarin Akinbami about the effects of laws on banking in the US and UK.

The repeal of the Glass--Steagall Act in the US in particular has resulted in large controversy amongst economists and other financial researchers.  Does the separation of commercial from investment banking help prevent financial crises from occurring? This question, amongst others about what led up to the 2007 banking crisis, are explored in this podcast.
