Risk Taking for Resilience

In this talk Dr Ian Davison, from the Department of Psychology in Durham, will describe some preliminary observations from a multidisciplinary project which is looking at risk and resilience in the port environment.

Resilience is the capacity to anticipate and deal with disruption and one way of understanding it is through an analysis of risk assessment and risk management practices.  Current risk management practices tend to focus on the ‘bounded’ risks associated with individual organisations, but the interdependencies within the port environment create risks that are difficult to identify and manage.  He uses the Port of London (PoL) as a case study and reviewing its risk assessment and risk management practices to identify such ‘unbounded’ risks in complex, interconnected environments.
