Launch of Industry, Land and Health Programme of Work

30th April 2009, 17:00 to 19:00, Coffee Bar, Department of Engineering

The new ‘Industry, Land and Health’ Programme of Work will be launched on the 30th April 2009. The event will also act as the launch of ROBUST (Regeneration of Brownfield using Sustainable Technologies), which is a 5 year project recently awarded to Dr Karen Johnson (Engineering) and Dr Clare Bambra (Geography) by EPSRC. To mark the event, Frances Thirlway Fine Art is curating a small exhibition of North East-based artists whose work explores relevant themes and the launch event will double up as a private view of this work, continuing until 7pm. The artists, whose work involves post-industrial themes, will include Stephen Livingstone, Clare Money and Angela Sandwith. The exhibition will run until the end of May, weekdays only 09.00-17.00. If you would like to attend the launch and viewing, please email Krysia Johnson.

ROBUST involves the development of sustainable technologies for the remediation of low-value brownfield sites and will involve local communities in the regeneration process. The impact of this involvement on the community’s sense of wellbeing will be assessed. The project will be largely based in IHRR and forms a substantial part of the ‘Industry, Land and Health’ PoW.
