Seminar - Context-bound theodicies: When God, nature and politics meet

5th May 2010, 12:30 to 14:00, Seminar Room 010, Department of Geography, Dr Claudia Merli, Department of Anthropology

Drawing on first-hand experience and research in the aftermath of tsunami, this paper argues that theological explanations are applied with historically specific political, educational and disciplinary intents. Theodicies are ultimately context-bound. Taking on an approach merging anthropological analysis and political theology the question we should answer is: are we suddenly realising that ‘God’s politics’ is back? And if yes, why?
