NERC-funded 'Global Volcano Model'
(29 April 2011)
Dr Claire Horwell is a project partner in the 'Global Volcano Model' funded by NERC.
The Global Volcano Model (GVM) concerns the identification and assessment of hazards and risks from volcanoes on global, regional and local scales, and the capability to anticipate future volcanism and its consequences.
The GVM project will 1) create an integrated database system of volcanic hazards, vulnerability and exposure and develop internationally agreed metadata standards, 2) make this system globally accessible, 3) design, develop and maintain the system, 4) establish methodologies for analysis of the data (e.g. vulnerability indices) to inform risk assessment, 5) develop complementary hazards models, 6) create relevant hazards and risk assessment tools, and 7) maintain a strong, long-lasting GVM community.
Claire is Director of the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network: http://www.ivhhn.org/
