Biography

Anca Daniela Chirita joined Durham Law School in 2011. Previously Konrad-Adenauer fellow at Europa-Institut, Saarland University, Germany, she was awarded a Ph.D. Summa cum laude in competition law (2010). At the Europa-Institut in Saarbrücken she also completed the European Integration master programme with specialisations in European Economic Law, Foreign Trade, and the European Protection of Human Rights. During her PhD she worked in a team of researchers selected by the College of Europe, Bruges on Study on the impact of national rules on unilateral conduct that diverge from Article 102 TFEU (DG COMP tender), as a legal trainee with the Monopolies Commission in Bonn (2009) and Blue Book trainee with the European Commission in Brussels (2007/2008). During 2012/2014 she will be a DAAD visiting fellow (German Academic Exchange Service) at the University of Hamburg, Europa-Kolleg and Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht. She is member of the Editorial Review Board of Oxford Competition Law, a forthcoming competition journal of Oxford University Press.

Research Interests

Her first book (with Nomos, Baden-Baden (2011)) on the abuse of a dominant position under Article 102 TFEU and national competition rules comparatively, including goals of competition law, won the Dr. Friedrich-Feldbausch-Stiftung Prize for best dissertation at Saarland University in the academic year 2010/2011. Her current research projects examine EU mergers and procedural issues; relative market power, bargaining strength and oligopolies, and comparative competition law in the EU (study forthcoming in an edited collection of Europa-Kolleg, Hamburg). She is a member of the Academic Society for Competition Law (Munich), the Irish Society of Comparative Law and Durham European Law Institute.
