'About Face' Exhibition and Seminars
Exhibition: 5 May - 24 June
The Centre for Medical Humanities and the Durham Light Infantry Museum Art Gallery are jointly organising an exhibition which will feature a number of pastels by the artist surgeon, Henry Tonks, depicting soldiers from the First World War who sustained facial injuries. The works are held by the Royal College of Surgeons of London and we have arranged a loan of these works as the centrepiece of the exhibition from 6 May-24 June 2012. Emma will also organise an associated exhibition commissioned from a contemporary artists to run alongside these works and reflect upon them. During the period of the exhibition we will organise a number of events that will be open to the public:
27 February 2012 at 6.15pm - A poetry reading by Kathleen Jamie (IAS fellow and Professor of Creative Writing at Stirling University);
30 May 2012 at 7.30pm - A discussion led by Ludmilla Jordonova, Professor of Modern History at King College, who has written on portraiture
