We are launching a Sandpit event and a new Project Funding Opportunity to advance the interdisciplinary research and leadership skills of our post-doctoral researchers and fellows at DU. This is a joint initiative between the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) and the university’s Research Culture development project Flourish@Durham.

Social media, AI and 'fake news' are among the many challenges facing journalism today. The IAS has a busy term ahead and details of seminars, public lectures, workshops from both our Fellows and projects (major projects and research development projects) are listed in our Term Card.

The IAS welcomes its Epiphany Term (2024) Fellows to Durham. Several of our Fellows will be collaborating across the University with colleagues on two major IAS projects (Understanding Offence; and Justice and Artificial Intelligence) or joining forces with other colleagues on additional research until the end of this term. 

The IAS supports, promotes and grows new and creative interdisciplinary ideas that transform our perspectives in challenging and provocative ways. We provide time, space, and resources to exchange/integrate ideas, knowledge and skills. We are a home to an inclusive, diverse and supportive community of scholars from Durham University and across the world. We are now launching our call for 2025/26 Major Projects – an investment of up to £55,000 per project in major interdisciplinary research ideas

The Institute of Advanced Study (IAS) is a home for growing big ideas.
