I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Philosophy at Durham University. My research focuses on a cluster of topics at the intersection of ethics, epistemology, and the philosophies of medicine, religion, and science; lately I am especially interested in the role of epistemic virtues in scientific enquiry, the nature of a religious life, scientism, and the moral and cognitive value of illness. In October 2012 I began a three year funded research project entitled Epistemic Humility.
