An administrator's perspective
Since joining almost a year ago to work in the administration of the University, I have been impressed with the professionalism of my colleagues, the friendly culture and proactive environment.
I very much enjoyed the time I spent at university as a student and was keen to embark on a career in the Higher Education sector. I place a high value on education and learning and am pleased that in this role I am able to contribute to the working of the University.
Working as Policy Support Officer within the Human Resources department allows me to experience a wide range of projects and work situations. My work is largely project-based which ensures it is varied. A typical day might involve attending a planning meeting, analysing data for a report to senior management and handling ad hoc queries or requests for information.
I enjoy a challenge and the role has certainly offered a selection of these from getting to grips with University structure and governance to becoming adept at managing my time effectively to ensure key tasks are achieved to tight deadlines.
I have found one of the major benefits of working here to be the excellent training and development opportunities available. My advice to you as a new member of staff would be to take advantage of the open culture to ask as many questions as you can and be willing to challenge the way things are done. I have certainly found this to be both useful and encouraging.
I hope like me you will find it an enjoyable and stimulating place to work.
