Customary Days
There are 4 Customary Days fixed at the discretion of the University. Normally these are allocated to the period between Christmas and New Year.
In the case of the Colleges, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Warden of the Colleges may adopt the same Customary Days or fix alternative days for all or for individual colleges in the light of students' needs and vacation trade.
Part-Time Staff
Holidays, bank holidays and customary days should be aggregated and allocated on a pro rata basis.
For example: for a member of staff on a 50% contract entitled to 50% of 27 days contractual annual leave per year + 4 customary days + 8 bank holidays = 50% of 39 days = 19 1/2 days holiday entitlement per annum.
Where a bank holiday or customary day falls on a day the part-time member of staff would usually work then the equivalent amount of time must be deducted from the entitlement for that year. This does require some forward planning as there must be sufficient entitlement left at the end of the year to accommodate the Christmas break.
If you do not work regular hours and have a query about your holiday entitlement, please contact your HR contact in the Divisional Support team.
